The Florida Israel techy trek Business Accelerator (FIBA) – based at the Bryan Glazer Family JCC in Tampa – led a group of business leaders, investors and community members on a recent trip to Israel to explore the startup nation firsthand.
The trip aimed to immerse participants in the Israeli business environment so they could learn best practices to nurture entrepreneurship. It also aimed to show FIBA’s Israeli partners what Tampa Bay has to offer.
Since 2017 FIBA has offered Israeli tech businesses the opportunity use office space at the Glazer JCC and introduced them to potential investors and business people that can help them open a U.S market in the Tampa Bay area.
Along with FIBA staff members, participants in the tour included Louis Orloff, Rochelle and Steve Walk, David and Sara Scher, Scott Arnold, Michael Bloom, Jason Swoboda, Ellen and Matthew Mullarkey, Ellis Norsoph, Bruce Shindelman, Brian Kornfeld and Marc Blumenthal.
The trip started at Tel-Aviv University where the group heard presentations by top faculty and researchers in the fields of cyber security, medicine and drug discovery. The visit at TAU concluded with a visit to TAU Ventures, the university’s accelerator and investment vehicle. The group got a special preview of a new startup founded by Aviv Shapira, who will also be keynote speaker at FIBA’s Innovation Fusion event in Tampa on May 22.
The tour group lunched at L28, a culinary platform that serves as an accelerator for emerging Israeli chefs. L28 is run by Startup Nation Central, a non-governmental organization that presented information about the overwhelming scope of innovation, capital investment and international interest in Israel.
At a reception hosted by FIBA’s partner, Barnea Law, the group networked with FIBAcohort companies, Israeli partners and new companies interested in the FIBA program.
