Results of deep-space test of StemRad vest ‘exceeded expectations’
Based on data collected during the radiation experiment on the manikins, “we have found that, if an astronaut crew inside the Orion spacecraft were exposed to a major solar storm, wearing the AstroRad vest would provide a major reduction in radiation dose, significantly reducing the risk of health effects like acute radiation syndrome, cardiovascular disease, or cancer while simultaneously extending their spaceflight careers by hundreds of days (based on NASA career exposure limits),” Milstein said.
